Search inside documents
Find a document by the words inside it, read on your own device, not sent anywhere.
During the beta
Documents are not open during the beta, because the beta takes no uploads. Grown-ups who open Documents see a preview with a made-up family’s paperwork, so you can see how it will work. Nothing you press there is uploaded or saved. This article describes how documents work when they open.
Search
Type in Search documents. Ourstead looks at names, notes and tags, and at the words inside photos, scans and PDFs once they have been read for search.
Turn on searching inside
- The owner opens Family & settings → Privacy & data.
- Under Search inside photos, scans and PDFs, tick Read words on this device for search.
- On the Documents screen, tap Read them on this device to read the documents you already have.
The words are read on the device you are using and kept as scrambled codes, not as text, so a copy of the database does not contain them. Turn the setting off to remove them.
