Co-parenting between two homes
Link two households to share one child’s events and chores, keep a handover calendar, and see only what each home chooses to share.
Plus Part of Ourstead Plus. What Plus includes.
During the beta
Co-parenting is not open during the beta yet. This article describes how it works when it opens. It is part of Plus, and Plus on either home covers the link for both.
Before you start
Each home needs its own household in the app, with its own owner. One owner starts the link, the other accepts it, and both have to agree before anything is shared. You can link one child at a time; a household with two children can have a link for each.
Start a link
- The household owner opens Family & settings → Household, and finds Co-parenting.
- Tap Set up co-parenting, choose the child, read the explanation and agree on behalf of the household.
- Tap Create the link, then Copy link. The link is shown once and works for 7 days.
Give the link to the other household’s owner. Nobody else can accept it.
The other home agrees
- The other owner opens the link while signed in to their own household.
- They choose which of their children is the same child, read the same explanation and agree.
- Tap Agree and link. The link starts working when both agreements exist.
Choose what is shared
On an event or chore for that child, open its menu and choose Share with the other home. Do the same to stop sharing it. The Co-parenting card lists what this home shares, with a switch for each item, and a switch to share new events for that child by default. It is off until you turn it on.
Only a whole-household event or chore can be shared. A private or selected event is never offered. Across the link go the title, the date and time or due date, whether it is all day, the child’s first name, a place, and how it repeats. Notes, other people, drivers, costs and private items never cross, and nothing else in either household can be seen by the other.
The handover calendar
On the Co-parenting card, tap a day to switch which home has the child. Both homes’ grown-ups can set it, and both see the same calendar. Today shows a short line on a day with a handover.
What the other home sees
The other home’s shared events appear in the calendar and on Today, and its shared chores appear in Chores, marked with the home they came from and read-only. The wall display never shows them. If the link is ever paused because neither home has Plus, nothing is lost; it works again when either home has Plus.
Unlink
- Either owner opens the Co-parenting card and chooses Unlink.
- Confirm.
Both homes keep everything they made. The other home’s shared items disappear from yours, and the one-time link stops working. Each home’s agreement is kept until that household is deleted.
