The kitchen wall display

Turn a tablet into a family screen that shows the day, the chores and dinner to everyone walking past.

Set up a tablet

  1. On the tablet, open Ourstead and sign in as a grown-up.
  2. Open Family & settings → Look & your Today, and find Wall display.
  3. Under When this device is a wall, choose Offer a full screen or Always full screen. Always full screen asks first, and makes only this tablet the wall.
  4. Tap Open the wall. Leave the tablet on a stand, plugged in.

The wall shows the date and time, Needs attention, today’s calendar, the chores, dinner, the shopping list, messages, birthdays, home maintenance and what is coming up. It keeps the screen awake where the tablet allows it, and dims at night.

What the family can do on it

Tap the calendar to look through the month. Children can tap Start on a routine and work through its steps. The wall shows chores but does not tick them off: do that on a phone. Private events, and anything marked “Just me”, never appear on the wall.

Leave the wall

A grown-up taps Leave the wall in the top corner. If the tablet was set to Always full screen, this signs it out.

A child’s wall

A grown-up chooses a child’s wall, not the child. Open People, tap the pencil beside the child’s name, and under Wall display choose Never, Offer a full screen or Always full screen. With Always full screen, any phone or tablet the child signs in on shows the wall, and the child has no way to leave it. To turn it off, choose Never here; a tablet that is still signed in as the child opens the whole app again the next time it loads. The child’s own Settings shows the choice and says that a grown-up sets it.
