During the beta

The Family Yearbook and shared drawing clips are not open to beta households yet. This article describes how they work when they open.

Make a book of the year

  1. Open Yearbook from More, in the Family group.
  2. Choose the year at the top, under Which year. Years are offered from your household’s first record the book could use (a photo, a drawing, a memory, a dinner, a finished chore or a one-off event), never more than six; with only one year there is nothing to choose.
  3. Check the trips and big days (one-off days that have already happened: repeating events such as school drop-off are left out), drawings by month, notes kept as memories and photos that should go in. Turn on birthdays, chores finished and the dinners you cooked most if you want them. At least one thing must be chosen.
  4. Tap Make the book and leave the page open. It says what it is doing while it works; pictures that need it are prepared for printing first.
  5. When it says Ready, tap Download. The PDF is kept for seven days and then deleted, with its record.

What goes in

The book has a cover with your household’s name and the year, a page for each month that has something in it, and the chores, dinners and a back page after them. Drawings are printed large and photos are set in pairs. A month with nothing chosen is left out rather than printed empty; so are a child with no chores and a dinner cooked only once.

Only what you check goes in, and only records you can already see. Another grown-up’s private note or private event is never included. If a record is deleted or becomes private before the book is made, it quietly falls out.

Mark a note as a memory

In Notes, open the ··· menu on a note and choose Keep as a memory. The mark is a bookmark, not a copy: the note stays where it is, and the Yearbook page offers every marked note from that year. Open the menu again and choose Remove the memory mark to take it off.

Share one animated drawing

  1. Open Drawings and open a drawing.
  2. Under Shared drawing clips, tap Share a clip.
  3. Choose who moves and what they do, and how long the link should last: a week unless you choose otherwise, thirty days at most.
  4. Tap Make the link, then copy or share it. The link is shown only once.
  5. To end it early, tap Withdraw beside the link.

What the link shows

The page shows the drawing’s title and that one animation, and nothing else from your household: no names other than the title, no other pictures, no calendar. It opens without an account, so anyone with the unexpired link can watch it. When the time is up, or when you withdraw it, the link stops working and the same “link has ended” page appears. The record is removed seven days after it ends.
